Welcome to Ecclesbourne Valley Railway

Since 2002 we have been welcoming visitors to our fabulous heritage railway, which operates services between Wirksworth and Duffield, with intermediate stations at Idridgehay and Shottle.

We also run limited services to Ravenstor station, which is one mile north of Wirksworth at the end of a unique 1-in-27 incline, where there is direct access to the High Peak Trail.

The 9-mile line runs along the valley of the Ecclesbourne River and takes in stunning Derbyshire countryside, passing through woodlands, farmland and gently undulating hills – the perfect setting for a fascinating day out, which can be enjoyed by the whole family.

We operate regular passenger services most weekends, hauled by steam and classic diesel locomotives, and we also organise a wide range of events, including murder mysteries, Santa specials, afternoon teas and fine dining experiences.
